Almost every time you buy a product from your local store you are depending upon producers worldwide. Yet what do these producers receive for their efforts? Do they get a fair deal? In many cases the answer is no. All too often producers in the developing world are stuck in a cycle of poverty.
Fairtrade means these small-scale producers receive a decent price for their products, one that is a fair reflection of their labour.
Wed 7th March 2012
St Joseph’s College,
Ocotal Way
Doors open 7pm.
Event begins 7.30pm
Refreshments will be available
Tickets: £7
(£5 concessions)
Fairtrade puts a little humanity back into our purchasing choices. Buying things with the FAIRTRADE Mark means that producers in developing countries are paid fairly – enough for today – plus a little extra for them to invest for tomorrow.
St Joseph’s College, MidCounties Cooperative and the Swindon Fairtrade Coalition have joined together to bring you an evening of entertainment with a message, and an opportunity to hear from Jennifer, a Ugandan Coffee Grower.

Our patron's believe in the Fair Trade way of Business!
Helen BrowningEastbrook Farm, Bishopstone Fairtrade offers one important way forward for farmers, especially in the developing world. All food should be fairly traded, and I look forward to the day when we don’t need to label products in this way. Until then, buy Fairtrade! the Councillor Sinead DarkerSwindon I am proud to support Fairtrade in Swindon. Fluctuating prices in the commodity markets can cause hardship in the developing world, making life miserable for struggling farmers - leading to limited life choices for their children. We need to support a more sustainable way of trading for the things we love - for example, coffee, cocoa and cotton. Fairtrade offers suppliers a stable price for their crop, allowing disadvantaged producers to gain equitable access to the open markets in the wealthy western world. |
Bishop Lee RayfieldSwindon I am delighted to have been invited Peter WellsRetired Head of St Joseph’s College In seeking to bring all to an understanding of Global Citizenship and the issues facing the Southern World we have established direct and mutually valued links with schools and communities world wide whilst at home we have espoused the positive dimension of ‘Fairtrade’ using products that support sustainability and give proper reward to those who are the primary producers. |
